I’ve been a collector for most of my life and although my tastes have changed over the years I still enjoy the hunt for interesting old items. Better still is the research that goes along with each piece, it’s a “Continuing Education” program that never ends.
For nearly 20 years I was a somewhat obsessive collector of Beatles memorabilia and records. I was a dealer for nearly 15 years, maintained a large website and wrote the occasional article for trade publications. I even led a Beatles tour to England in 1998 … a splendid time was guaranteed for all! I’m no longer involved in the Beatles biz but it was good fun while it lasted.
I’ve been interested in ephemera and photographs for quite some time and while the subject matter varies it often revolves around tourism or transportation in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I’ve always been drawn to the Victorian and Edwardian periods both in Britain and in Canada. I have a particular interest in the history of Victoria (BC) and in London (England).
In the past few years I’ve shared some of my finds on various websites and have tweeted from time to time as well. I thought it was time to tie it altogether and so Ephemeral Thoughts was born. I hope to update ET several times a week and to include a nice mix of vintage photographs and paper items. If you collect ephemera yourself, or just enjoy learning more about these little fragments from our past, I hope you’ll follow my blog or @jake_a_loo on Twitter.
